Open mat challenge: I'm going to roll with every single person who shows up this Saturday. Purple belt or white belt, doesn't matter. Growth happens when you mix it up. See you on the mat! #OpenMat
Pro tip: invest in good shin guards. Cheap ones shift during sparring and you end up with bone-on-bone contact. Your shins will thank you. Also tape your hands properly before bag work, I learned the hard way. #MuayThai
Brought my daughter to the Buds class today and watching her learn is the best thing ever. She hit a hip escape drill perfectly and looked at me like 'did you see that?!' Love that this gym has a kids program too.
6 months of consistent Muay Thai and my kicks have completely transformed. The teep used to feel like I was pushing with a pool noodle, now it actually stops people. Film yourself training, the progress is real even when it doesn't feel like it.
Wednesday No-Gi was π₯ today. We drilled leg locks, heel hooks and knee bars from ashi garami. I used to be terrified of leg locks but understanding the entries makes the whole thing way less scary. Highly recommend.
Been going hard on competition prep the last few weeks. Drilling the same 3-4 sequences over and over until they feel automatic. The comp class on Saturdays has been helping a lot. Feeling way more confident about putting it all together under pressure.
Meal prep Sunday! Grilled chicken, brown rice, and roasted veggies for the week. Trying to eat cleaner since I started training and the difference in energy on the mat is real. What's everyone's go-to training fuel?
Quick tip that helped me: if you're drilling a new submission, don't just rep the finish. Drill the entire entry chain from a common position. The setup matters more than the lock. Changed my game once I started thinking about it this way.
The pad work we did in Thursday's Muay Thai was next level. Working on the 1-2 into low kick combo and the timing of that switch from hands to legs is so satisfying when you get it right. Who else is addicted to combo drilling?
Just signed up for my first competition. Nervous doesn't even begin to describe it. Any advice from the veterans? I've been training 2 years but competition feels like a whole different thing. #CompPrep
Recovery day question: what's everyone doing for post-training recovery? I've been foam rolling and taking cold showers but my shoulders are chronically tight. Any stretches or routines that have worked for you? #Recovery
Just finished my first full week of Muay Thai and No-Gi classes. Everything hurts but in the best way possible. The community here is so welcoming, nobody made me feel dumb for not knowing the basics.
Finally hit that arm bar from closed guard today! Coach Judah showed a detail about hip positioning that made everything click. Months of drilling and it just felt natural in live rolling for the first time.
Shoutout to the morning Gi class crew. Training at 6am hits different. Smaller group, more mat time, and everyone is locked in. If you haven't tried the early sessions you're missing out.
Muay Thai class tonight was brutal in the best way. Those body kicks are no joke, my ribs are going to remember this session for a while. Coach broke down the mechanics of the switch kick and it suddenly made way more sense.
Saturday open mat was incredible. Got some amazing rounds with the purple belts. The pace difference is something else, they make everything look effortless. Back to drilling Monday. #OpenMat #NoGi
Hello world! This is our first post. Also happens to be Coach Judah's Birthday. Happy Birthday Coach! Thank you for helping us grow and get stronger and better every time we're on the mat. The Garden MMA
